LBHS Cares – Destiny Garden School
Recently we received a lovely update from Mombasa, Kenya. You will recall, we held a fundraising day last year in aid of Destiny Garden School. We managed to raise an amazing £744.67! It is clear from the letter and the photographs that our generosity has made a great deal of difference to the lives of the children at Destiny.

Dear Teachers and Students at the Lady Barn House School,
The School Director, Mr. Jacob Boaz, the staff and the children of Destiny Garden School would wish to express their sincere gratitude for your enormous help. On behalf of the school, I would like to thank you for your generous donation to support our lunch programme and acquire much needed text books.
Part of the funds, 76,624 Kenyan Shillings, enabled us to buy lunches last term for all our 470 children for two weeks. The lunch programme is a core factor in the operations of Destiny Garden School by encouraging pupils to attend school as many parents and guardians find it difficult to feed their families. The program now guarantees the children a decent meal during the day and this helps us to keep them at school and most importantly give them quality education.
I am attaching some lunch photos. On this day, the children were having Ugali and Green Grams. It is one of the meals the children look forward to. Ugali, a Kenyan staple, has become increasing rare in home tables due to high Maize prices in the markets. However, thanks to the DGS Feeding Programme, we are able to succeed in our supplies. We have consistently had Ugali meals throughout the term despite the shortage, although at an extra cost. For that we are grateful to the efforts Lady Barn School has made to ensure we achieve this.
The additional funds of 22,610 Kenyan Shillings provided much needed Text Books in the Nursery School wing. The teachers and pupils were delighted with the new arrival of books. I am also attaching some photos of these.
We are very grateful for your support and look forward to hearing from you again in future.
