Inspirational Speaker – Mr Winterton, Hand Surgeon
On Thursday, 28th September, Mr Winterton visited LBHS to talk to the Junior children about his job as a hand surgeon. He explained why hands are important to us and also gave the children some interesting facts, such as we have soft and looser skin on the back of our hands and the courser, tighter skin to grip with, on our palms. The children learnt that the single thumb is very important and without it, our hand would only function half as well as it can with a thumb.
Mr Winterton said that the best parts of his job included helping people and especially children, who need to have operations on their hands and he also loves wearing funny hats in surgery – they are much more interesting than the normal blue surgical hats!
The children asked some very good questions and Lottie and Arthur were very proud to hear their Dad speak to the School.
Thank you to Mr Winterton for giving his time to come and speak to us all. We really enjoyed it!
If any parents would like to come into School and talk to the children about your job or hobbies then please contact me via the Office.
