Lady Barn House School

Admissions Process

We recommend that you request a prospectus and take a look at our website for an overview of the School. Our prospectus pack includes a Registration Form.

We strongly encourage you to visit us during term time so that you can see the School in action. If you would like to arrange a visit, or attend one of our  Open Mornings, please contact Laura Lachevre, the Admissions and Marketing Manager via telephone (0161 359 7241) or by email ( .

In order to register interest in a place at Lady Barn House School, parents should complete and return the Registration Form, together with a non-refundable fee of £50.  The School will confirm receipt and that the child’s name is on the school’s register of candidates for admission.  Early registration is advised.

Pupils are admitted to Nursery in the September after their third birthday. There is currently no formal assessment for children entering the Nursery and places are offered based on the date of registration.

5 morning sessions are compulsory for all children, but they may attend between 0 and 5 afternoon sessions per week. The afternoon sessions must be set to specific days of the week, but these can be amended at 3 set points throughout the school year.

Pupils are admitted to Reception in the September after their fourth birthday. In the autumn term prior to this the Admissions & Marketing Manager will contact parents of children registered for Reception entry to arrange for your child to come into the school for a morning or afternoon (usually in October).  The Head of Early Years and the Nursery Form Teacher assess all children registered for entry into Reception. The age of the child at the time of the test is taken into consideration.

Assessment days are run throughout the school year and may be run for individual children or in groups. In the spring term there are ALSO days set aside for September entry into Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5. The aim of the day is to establish whether Lady Barn is the right choice for your child and for your child to feel excited about the possibility of joining the School. Your child will spend the day with a Form in their chronological year group and undergo a variety of age-appropriate assessments. No specific preparation for the assessments is needed. Assessment Days for September 2019 have been scheduled as follows:

  • Year 3 entry for September 2020 – Thursday 6 February 2020
  • Year 4 entry for September 2020 – Friday 28 February 2020
  • Year 5 entry for September 2020 – Friday 13 March 2020

We will aim to notify you of the outcome of the assessment day, usually within 48 hours . If an offer of a place is made, you will receive a Parent Contract including an Acceptance Form and Terms and Conditions. The signed Acceptance Form and Acceptance Deposit of £300 should be returned to the Admissions and Marketing Manager within three weeks. Following receipt of the Acceptance Form and Acceptance Deposit, the Admissions and Marketing Manager  will confirm your child has a guaranteed place.

We have now re-opened our doors to all year groups, whilst continuing to provide remote learning alongside our in-school provision. Thank you to our pupils, parents and staff for their support during this unprecedented time. We are still welcoming Admissions enquiries for September 2020 and beyond, via email to Mrs Lachevre: or telephone 0161 359 7241.
