Gymnastics for All
Gymnastics is taught from Nursery through to Year Six, to both boys and girls, as part of the curriculum. Specialist PE Staff nurture and develop skills at all levels within class groups. At lower junior level, the children are able to attend and open gymnastics club at lunchtime allowing individuals to extend their skills and develop further, no matter what their ability. At regular intervals throughout the year, gymnastics achievement within lessons is recognised at special Sports Awards assemblies and with the presentation of endeavour trophies.
Each year, the most able pupils are selected to represent the school at both Regional and National level. During the Lower Juniors and throughout the Upper Juniors children with exceptional talent are identified, encouraged and challenged. In the Upper Juniors, the most gifted children are invited to attend an after school gymnastics club which operates weekly and allows individuals to learn more advanced skills.
Lady Barn participates in Novice, North West Regional and Independent Schools competitions. We regularly put out six or more teams across the age groups and this allows children to experience the challenge of sport in a competitive context. We have been successful in all these events, winning medals and trophies for individual and team performances.
Our school display teams perform at School Open Mornings and at ‘Gymfest’, a North West Regional display event. During the Summer Term, we create dazzling performance for Early Years, Infant and Junior Sports Days. The display side of Lady Barn gymnastics captures children’s enthusiasm and promotes the enjoyment of sport, whatever their individual ability. This non-selective, non-competitive side to gymnastics at Lady Barn, involving costume and performance skills alongside simple acrobatic skills, is always a fabulous finale to the end of each academic year.
At Lady Barn we are equipped with superb facilities for gymnastics. We are able to crate a 12m by 10m floor area with state of the art matting in the school gym. We also have specialist vaulting equipment, power boards, trampettes and landing areas, alongside the more traditional primary school features, such as ropes, benches and wall bars.
