From Remote Learning to Blended Learning
With the very real prospect of our pupils moving in and out of the classroom, ‘blended learning’ has become an on-going reality at Lady Barn House School.
Throughout the summer term lock-down, we invested hugely in equipping our teachers with the skills and the resources to deliver a varied programme of activities for pupils, both on and off line, to engage them in meaningful learning, from a distance. From recorded videos, audios and some live lessons, pupils were able to maintain contact with their teachers and their peers, as they embarked on their summer term curriculum.
This has gathered pace this term, as we have now begun an extensive training programme in the use of Showbie – a fantastic workflow tool that enables teachers and their pupils to engage in real-time interactions, when they are working remotely. Perhaps one of Showbie’s most useful features is the voice note tool, which facilitates personalised feedback as well as enabling pupils to record a narrative to their handwritten work, hand in an oral submission in French or Mandarin or a video for Drama.
It is for these reasons that this programme was paramount in our strategic plan for IT before COVID, so we are delighted that it is proving so useful to our children and their teachers in the current circumstances.
We aim to have all classes from Year 1 to Year 6 using this tool extensively by January 2021 as we move away from MS Teams to this more bespoke application. Now that we have almost completed introducing 1:1 iPad, we can facilitate remote learning seamlessly, as and when it presents itself to our pupils and their families.
