Immersive Learning

At Lady Barn, every child is encouraged to develop a genuine love of learning in an environment where they feel confident to be themselves. We nurture curiosity, individuality and ambition, empowering our pupils to flourish academically, socially and emotionally - both within school and far beyond it.

Our vision is clear: to provide every student with the knowledge, skills and opportunities they need to embark on their own unique journey of discovery, growth and success. In a rapidly changing world, technology plays a vital role in how we learn and connect. At Lady Barn, we began our Apple journey in September 2019 and, by September 2020, every student from Prep 1 upwards was part of a 1:1 device programme.

To support this transformation, we established our Technology in Learning (TiL) team, bringing together pupils, teachers, technical staff and senior leaders to shape and drive our vision for digital learning. Together, the team developed our strategy, blending outstanding existing teaching practices with innovative new methodologies and technology - evolution, not revolution - while ensuring that both staff and classrooms were equipped with the skills, confidence and tools needed to succeed.

By embedding technology throughout our community, we empower children to become independent, collaborative and creative learners. Since introducing iPads, we have enhanced digital literacy, improved accessibility and increased engagement across the curriculum, ensuring our pupils are equipped with the confidence and skills they need for the future.

The Enhancements for Teaching and Learning

There are clear benefits to our use of iPads across our curriculum. Incorporating iPads in the classroom has enhanced our teaching and learning provision throughout the School. Lessons are creative and engaging, with innovative activities, and pupils have more opportunities to work collaboratively and use their imagination! iPads offer endless opportunities for the children to express themselves; they can make movies, produce music and program robots.  Showbie, our online platform for sharing resources and lesson content is used from Prep 2 up, giving pupils more independence with their learning and organisation. Parents are also able to keep track of their child’s work and feedback from home.

We have a core set of apps and websites that children and staff are familiar with, such as Pages, Keynote, iMovie and GarageBand. Yet individual subjects can be much more specific, from using the camera and photos to record and label heart dissections in Science, to the coding of Spheros to prepare for a robot-wars battle in Computing to BookCreator, which enables digital books to be created by some of our youngest pupils to support their learning in Humanities.

Personalised Learning for Every Child

To support each child’s preferred learning styles, iPads allow for a much more personalised experience based on their individual needs.

Lbhs sept25 525Teachers can provide easy access to scaffolding resources such as writing frames, word lists, times tables grids, as well as differentiated activities, all which support adaptive teaching. This ensures learners of all attainment levels can achieve, progress and meet their potential.

Coloured overlays, talk to text and translators can be employed to support learners with their reading and writing, and those for whom English is an additional language.

Our lessons offer opportunities for children to choose how to present their work, encouraging independent learning and creativity!
