A Place to Feel at Home

After arriving in the UK from Ukraine, one family was looking for a school where their children could feel safe, settled and able to flourish. Here, they share how Lady Barn became that place for them.

Finding a place to belong

When our family fled the war in Ukraine, we left behind our home and the life we had known. Arriving in the UK, one of our greatest concerns was helping our children feel safe, settled and able to look towards the future again.

From the moment we first visited Lady Barn, we felt something special. The warmth of the welcome, the kindness of the children and the genuine care shown by the staff gave us hope that this could become a place where our children would truly feel that they belonged.

Our daughter joined Lady Barn in Nursery, while our son joined in Prep 3. Within a short time, we could see a remarkable difference. Our children were happy, settled and secure. At a time when so much in our lives felt uncertain, knowing that they were safe and cared for gave us enormous peace of mind.

Known and cared for

What impressed us most was the way the School looked beyond what our children had been through and helped them discover their confidence and potential. Every teacher took the time to understand them as individuals, recognising their strengths and supporting them in their own unique journey.

The level of care at Lady Barn is exceptional. We describe it as ‘PhD-level care’ - thoughtful, instinctive and deeply human. It is the kind of care that goes beyond education and makes children feel known, valued and supported.

Confidence for the future

Our son went on to receive offers from several independent senior schools and is now at Manchester Grammar School. We are immensely proud of this achievement, but what matters most to us is the confidence, independence and sense of self that he developed along the way. We see the same positive impact in our daughter as she continues her own journey.

Lady Barn did more than educate our children. It gave them security, belonging and the confidence to look towards the future. We will always be grateful that, during such an important and uncertain chapter in our lives, Lady Barn became a place where our children could flourish and where our family could begin to feel at home again.
