The Great Fire of London - Prep 1

In our Drama lessons, we often use elements of other parts of the curriculum as a springboard for our work.

In Prep 1, we are currently working on The Great Fire of London. The children are reading a book about this as their class reader and are investigating the topic as part of their Humanities work. It has given us a treasure trove of ideas for Drama and we are developing a little dance-drama to complement our work in these other areas.

We even had a Great Fire of London-themed day, when we dressed up and practised some dances that people may have engaged in at the time. We have been using our imagination to walk, skip and jog through the maze of streets that made up the city of London in 1666 and illustrating the spread of the flames, using twists and turns and flickering fingers. All this forms part of the children’s expressionist interpretation of this devastating event.
