This week, Prep 1 have well and truly delved into the world of numbers. In a fun twist to counting, the children explored counting in 10s through action. Imagine a room filled with marching, jumping, stretching, hopping, and more – all while counting by tens! Practical and hands-on activities were the focus for this week, as the children grouped various objects, from counters to coins and Numicon. This activity not only strengthened their ability to count in 2s,5s and 10s, but also promoted teamwork and organisation.

To enhance the children’s understanding of odd and even numbers, Prep 1 created their own odd and even monsters in an imaginative way. The week concluded with an exploration of number patterns and comprehending the underlying principles that govern these patterns. Building on the foundation of counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s, the upcoming week promises to be an exciting continuation as the children will be applying this knowledge to the practical world of money.
