Science Summary

The year has got off to a practical start this September with the children participating in a wide variety of hands-on learning experiences. In Prep 6, all the children were most excited to participate in the annual heart dissection. Putting their knowledge into action, they have worked carefully to dissect hearts and identify different structures. They have also had great fun investigating the impact of blocked arteries on blood flow and oxygen delivery to cells.
Prep 5 are underway with a ‘Dragon’s Den’ enterprise challenge. Working to design insulated cups, they are putting into practice their knowledge of thermal insulators alongside wider financial and environmental considerations. In Lower Juniors, Prep 4 have done some disgusting experiments to find out what happens when our bodies digest food. Prep 3 have been investigating nutrients and testing foods for starch.
Woodland Science is well underway in Infants where Prep 2 children have enjoyed a scavenger hunt, to find materials with different properties. The children have been extremely observant and are able to confidently use scientific terms to describe materials.
