The children are all having a SUPER start to Reception! They are thoroughly enjoying their new topic ‘superheroes’ where they have been learning all about what makes a superhero special! After sharing our new class text ‘Superhero ABC’, the children discussed ideas for their very own superheroes, thinking of names, key features and what their hero may look like. The children shared some wonderful ideas and invented some brilliant names, here are a few of our favourites; ‘Muscle Man,’ ‘Goo Girl’ and ‘Wing Woman’.  Whilst exploring the continuous provision areas, the children have also encountered many exciting superhero activities. They have brought their villain-chasing stories to life, by dressing up and having lots of imaginative fun, role playing in our superhero headquarters shed. They have been working on their fine motor skills by making superhero bead bracelets, power cuffs and de-tangling fellow superhero characters from webs, and have made lots of super craft too.
We have certainly all been rather busy since the start of Reception, settling into our new classroom, making new friends and already working very hard in our lessons. We hope that you have been hearing about some of these fun activities at home already. We have a few weeks left of this topic; look out for a very special superhero guest who is visiting our classroom next week!

We have used the superhero's topic to support our literacy lessons, creating our own superheroes, labelling a superhero and writing wanted posters for Evil Pea! In Maths, we have been measuring different sized superheroes, counting out the correct number of medals to give to Supertato. Our topic has also had a big influence on our craft, and we have made some fantastic superhero-themed pieces. We started off with Spiderman webs, then all the children made their own superhero shield and mask, to hide their identity when they are off saving the world! All these crafts have given the children plenty of opportunities to practise their cutting, drawing, colouring, collaging and even sewing skills! What a busy and fun time we have had, and now RV are ready to save the day!
