On 8 November, Prep 6 embarked on a visit to Quarry Bank Mill. As part of our current studies on the Industrial Revolution in Humanities, this excursion provided an excellent opportunity to delve into the lives of child workers in a mill.

Enrolling as apprentices, Prep 6 actively engaged in tasks that mirrored the experiences of children their age in the Apprentice House. Impressively, they demonstrated adeptness in making beds and handling household chores!

Our exploration extended to the mill itself, where we delved into the numerous machines and remarkable inventions that transformed cotton into the valuable material we recognise today. The children were astonished by the challenging working hours endured by mill-workers and the deafening noise of the machines.

The visit was a resounding success, with the children acquiring valuable knowledge and thoroughly enjoying their day. We consider ourselves fortunate to have such a remarkable site right on our doorstep!
