Nursery - Learning About Winter!
Back
Children in Nursery are learning all about winter. This week, we have been talking about cold weather, what we wear, and what we might see on cold, frosty days. This discussion led the children to want to make ice, so we filled some balloons, rubber gloves, and different-shaped tubs. The children were keen to know what would happen if things got stuck in the ice, so we chose toys from the classroom and added them to the tubs, before popping them into the freezer.
The next day, they were so excited to see what had happened to the water and toys. They busily explored it with all their senses, thinking of different words to describe what the ice felt like, such as “cold, smooth, bumpy, lumpy, hard, and shiny.” As the day moved on, they could see that the ice started to melt and turn back into water. We had so much fun learning about ice that the children want to freeze more things, just like Elsa from Frozen!
