1) If you could switch roles with a pupil for a day, what class or subject would you choose, and why?

I would definitely choose to spend a day in Woodland School. Being in nature is my happy place and our woodland area is the perfect spot to clear the head and have some fun. As a biologist, I love the opportunity to discover more about environmental science. I have recently started trying to learn more about fungus so have enjoyed making new discoveries when I am teaching lessons out there. The children have started to point out little fungal finds to me, which I love.

2) Can you share a favourite memory or a funny moment that stands out to you?

I loved school and have lots of very happy memories. When I was about 8 we did a project on the Celts and our teacher got very practical and enthusiastic. He took us all off to Lindow Moss in Wilmslow to dig clay and then we all had to tread it into the ground with our bare feet....just like the Celts did! We then build a life-sized Celtic hut and cooked food on an open fire. I don't remember doing much maths, but memories like that remind me of the power of practical and creative educational experiences.

3) What's your go-to way to relax and unwind after a busy day at Lady Barn?

I love spending time with my family and particularly enjoy walking. With 3 children I don't get as much time for long walks as I would like, but we enjoy getting outside together. I also enjoy tennis, although I play badly! When I'm feeling less energetic, me and my husband are happy to relax with the latest box set.

4) Do you have any quirky or unique decorations or traditions that make your workspace special?

When I arrived at Lady Barn, I brought a lovely terrarium with me. It sits on my desk and is completely self-sustaining. It is a great talking point with the children and also quite good for me as I often kill off ordinary house plants!
