Exploring Houses and Homes in Prep 1
Back
As part of our Houses and Homes topic, the Prep 1 children have been learning about the different types of houses and homes that people live in. They have enjoyed sharing their own experiences and talking about where they live and who lives with them.
Parents were invited to stay and work alongside their children, and together they enjoyed making model houses with family members. This was a lovely opportunity for the children to work collaboratively and take pride in creating something together.
The children also drew pictures of their own houses and added labels, carefully identifying features such as doors, windows and roofs. They enjoyed explaining their drawings to their friends and listening to one another.
We explored maps of the area around our school using Google Maps and talked about what a bird’s-eye view looks like. The children enjoyed spotting familiar places and comparing the shapes of different buildings.
We have also begun to compare the houses we live in today with Tudor houses from the past. The children have been fascinated by the differences and are enjoying learning how homes have changed over time. They have shown great curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm as the topic continues.
