Lady Barn v Greenbank Match Report - Hockey
BackThe match last night was a fantastic battle between both sides. It was Greenbank who broke through the defensive line first and took the opportunity to score. However, Lady Barn were determined to draw level and tried hard to provide options for one another and put pressure on the ball carrier. After several minutes of working hard Lady Barn created several chances to score but they were all wide of the goalposts. However, their perseverance was quickly rewarded with their first goal scored by Diya M and this was shortly followed by a second goal. However, Greenbank were tough competitors and continued to push forwards and challenge the defensive line creating several chances of their own which made the game an exciting encounter.
Greenbank then scored a second goal shortly before the whistle blew to signal the end of the second quarter. In the third quarter, it was Greenbank who struck first again, but this seemed to galvanise the Lady Barn players and they showed great team work to move the ball from right to left and Vihana P scored the equalising third goal. As the final quarter got underway all the girls were gaining greater confidence to try and keep possession and find a pass or take the ball into space taking some crunching tackles along the way. Each team working hard to break the stalemate, but it was Greenbank who managed to find a way through with only 2 minutes left to play, scoring what would ultimately be the winning goal of the game.
The match was very evenly matched with lots of good hockey skills on display from both sides, but I was really impressed with the Lady Barn girl's teamwork and sportsmanship throughout. Well done!
