Settling into Nursery

What an action-packed start to our school year at Lady Barn! The children have been settling into their classrooms and getting to know each other and their teachers. We have had lots of cuddles, laughter and play, as well as some colourful learning, through our Elmer topic. Elmer is a unique little elephant, very different in many ways and also a kind-hearted and fun character (just like many of our children).

This topic is an excellent way to get to know the children, and their similarities and differences. The story also allows us to get creative! We have collaged listening ears and created repeating patterns like Elmer’s patchwork body. We have also been able to manipulate shapes to create a picture of Elmer and have used our imagination in our Elmer 'small world' tray.

Elmer has also appeared to help us remember how to listen carefully, with our big elephant ears and our watchful eyes. Listening to the different Elmer stories after lunch has been a lovely, calming activity.

Thank you for all of your continued support during the settling-in period so far and I hope you feel inspired to share some lovely Elmer stories at home too.
