This year in Science, Prep 1 has been busy exploring the world around us through exciting experiments, hands-on activities, and fun investigations.

We started by learning about different groups of animals and what makes them unique. We discovered the differences between herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores and thought about what they eat.

Our senses were a big focus, too! We investigated how we smell food and how our tongues can taste different flavours like sweet, sour, savoury, bitter, and salty. We had lots of fun, trying different foods and guessing their flavours.

Materials and their properties were another exciting topic. We explored waterproof and absorbent materials when making boats, to see which would float. We also built houses for the Three Little Pigs and tested different materials, to find out which were the strongest.

One of our favourite activities was making gingerbread houses, linking our learning about materials and structures to a creative project. We also learned about which materials would make a soft and comfortable bed, just like in The Princess and the Pea.

Science in Prep 1 has been full of discovery, creativity, and lots of fun. We can’t wait for even more exciting experiments next year!
