People Who Help Us... In and Around the Nursery
Back
This half term, we’ve been having a blast exploring the very popular topic of ‘People Who Help Us’. From paramedics and their equipment, to the vet and his dog, and even a lively visit from the police, our learning has been action-packed!
We kicked things off with a walk around school, introducing the children to the nurse, office staff, kitchen team, site team, and teachers across the school. After that, we dove into learning about the emergency services. The paramedics were particularly impressed with the children’s thoughtful questions, and everyone had a great time exploring the bandage box! The police visit was another highlight, complete with sirens, hats to try on, and even handcuffs. The children were full of questions, eager to learn how fast the police get to drive and even trying out the handcuffs on their teachers!
We’ve also explored the fire services through stories, role play, and costumes. After the recent floods in Stockport, the children were particularly engaged, sharing their experiences of being rescued by the fire services. We were also lucky to have Anne, the dentist, come and talk to the children about healthy diets. I was so proud of how the children confidently discussed their knowledge of good oral hygiene, and they had a great time with her giant toothbrush and crocodile helper!
To round things off, we had a visit from the vet and his special pet, which is always a favourite. The children loved learning about the vet’s job, bandaging the little dog, and discovering how he cares for animals.
Alongside all of this, we’ve celebrated the start of Spring and continued with various seasonal themes. It’s been such a busy, fun-filled half term, and we’ve loved every minute of it. We hope all of our visitors have sparked some new inspirations and ideas for the children!
