Prep 4 Shine Bright!
Back
Prep 4 have made an excellent start to the new school year at Lady Barn. We have spent time discussing our school core values to set the tone for the year and these have already been evident in the children’s learning, play and friendships, helping to create a supportive and happy classroom environment.
In PSHE, the children have been exploring what respect looks like within friendships and family relationships. They have discussed the importance of listening to others, treating people with kindness and valuing different opinions. The children have shared thoughtful examples of how they can show respect at home by helping family members, speaking kindly and showing appreciation for others. They have also considered how these same values apply to friendships at school – encouraging one another, taking turns and offering help when it is needed.
Respect has also been evident out on the astro, where the children have shown fairness, teamwork and inclusivity in their games. They are learning that respecting others means listening to different ideas, celebrating successes together and making sure everyone feels welcome. It has been wonderful to see the children supporting each other, whether in a competitive fixture or during free play, always trying to make sure that everyone has fun.
In lessons, respect is helping to create a positive learning culture. In English, the children have been listening carefully when their classmates share work and offering their own ideas in a supportive way. This half term we have been reading the wonderful book Gorilla by Anthony Browne, and brainstorming lots of expanded noun phrases and fronted adverbial sentences to bring the images in the book to life. In Maths, they have been collaborating effectively, showing patience and encouragement as they reason and problem solve together. It is so important, as the Prep 4 children become increasingly independent learners, that everyone has the opportunity to contribute and celebrate each other’s achievements.
We are proud of how well Prep 4 have started the term. Their enthusiasm, kindness and respect for one another are setting the tone for a successful and enjoyable year ahead and they are already making a wonderful contribution to the Lady Barn House School community.
