Navigating the Digital World with Confidence: Prep 3 Explore Online Safety
BackThis half term, Prep 3 pupils have been exploring how to stay safe online, learning not just the “rules” of the digital world, but how to live out Lady Barn’s core values of respect, community and teamwork in the spaces where they learn, play and connect.
Through group projects, discussions and role-play, children have been thinking carefully about how they share personal information, what to do if someone isn’t who they claim to be, and how to respond if they or a friend experience unkind behaviour online. Together, they created their own set of “Safe Online Rules”, a shared commitment to look out for themselves and each other.
“I learnt that if something feels wrong, I should talk to a trusted adult straight away,” said one pupil. “It’s never silly to ask for help.”
Teachers emphasise that online safety is a shared responsibility, and that teamwork doesn’t stop when the screen turns on. Pupils are encouraged to support one another, offer help if a friend is worried, and remember that asking for support is always the right choice.
We know these conversations don’t end at the school gate. To help you continue them at home, we recommend exploring trusted resources such as NSPCC Online Safety, CEOP Education, Internet Matters, and the UK Safer Internet Centre. Talking regularly about what your child is doing online, just as you would about their school day, can make a huge difference.
Our safeguarding team is always here to support families. If you have any concerns or would like advice on tools and strategies, please do get in touch.
