The Prep 3 children have demonstrated outstanding commitment and enthusiasm in their recent English learning, engaging deeply with a range of creative and analytical activities. Throughout the term, the class has explored two carefully selected texts, The Seal Surfer and Winter’s Child, which have provided rich opportunities to develop comprehension, imagination, and critical thinking skills.

As part of their study of The Seal Surfer, the children immersed themselves in the narrative by imagining life from the perspective of a character within the story. They used this understanding to write diary entries, thoughtfully expressing emotions, experiences, and viewpoints linked to the text. This task encouraged empathy, creativity, and a deeper understanding of character development. In addition, the children studied the life cycle and characteristics of a seal before independently researching an animal of their choice. Using this information, they created detailed fact files that demonstrated strong research skills and an ability to present information clearly and accurately.

To further extend their learning, the children wrote riddles based on their chosen animals. This activity was particularly enjoyable, as pupils shared their riddles with classmates, listened attentively, and enthusiastically guessed each other’s animals. This collaborative experience strengthened speaking, listening, and reasoning skills while fostering a positive and engaging classroom atmosphere.

The study of Winter’s Child presented an exciting challenge, encouraging the children to think more deeply about fantasy texts. The themes and imaginative elements of the story prompted thoughtful discussions, allowing pupils to explore ideas beyond the literal text and develop higher-order thinking skills.

Alongside their literacy work, the children have shown exceptional dedication to improving their handwriting. They have demonstrated resilience and perseverance, putting considerable effort into refining letter formation and presentation. Overall, Prep 3 should be commended for their hard work, creativity, and positive attitude towards learning.
