A Busy and Brilliant Term in Prep 2!
BackPrep 2 have had a fantastic and action-packed term, full of creativity, curiosity and lots of hands-on learning.
In English, the children have been diving into the magical world of dragons through the story, Dragon Machine. They have loved exploring this exciting text and have used it as inspiration for a range of writing activities. Prep 2 have created informative leaflets explaining how to look after dragons, written clear step-by-step instructions for dragon care, and are currently busy creating their very own dragon stories. Their imaginations have truly taken flight!
In Maths, a big focus has been money, where the children have been learning to recognise coins and notes, total amounts, and find change. They have enjoyed solving real-life problems such as buying items from a shop, working out how much things cost altogether, and calculating how much change they should receive. These practical activities have really helped them build confidence and understand how Maths is used in everyday life.
Alongside this, the children have been developing their multiplication and division skills. They have been practising their times tables and related division facts, using lots of hands-on activities, games, and discussion to help their understanding. The class especially enjoys using Times Tables Rock Stars, which has been a fun and motivating way for them to improve their speed and accuracy.
In Humanities, the focus has been on Ancient Egypt. The children began by learning where Ancient Egypt is located and why the River Nile was so important to everyday life. They have particularly enjoyed discovering fascinating facts about ancient Egyptian gods and learning all about mummies and the mummification process.
The half term ended with an unforgettable experience when Russel and Dawn from History Alive visited the school. Prep 2 were transported back in time to Ancient Egypt, where they learned a dance to “Walk Like an Egyptian” and even experienced first-hand what it was like to be a mummy! It was a fun, engaging and memorable way to bring their learning to life.
Well done, Prep 2, for your enthusiasm and fantastic effort this term – we are so proud of all you have achieved!
