Although Summer 1 has been a short half term, it has certainly been a busy and memorable one for Prep 4. The children have approached every challenge with enthusiasm, maturity and determination and it has been wonderful to see them continue to grow in confidence across all areas of the curriculum.

In Maths, the children have been developing their understanding of symmetry, translation and rotation of shapes. They have shown great precision and care in their work, thinking carefully about how shapes can be reflected, moved and turned accurately. It has been fantastic to see their confidence increase when explaining their reasoning and applying their knowledge to more challenging tasks.

In English, the class has produced some beautifully creative and thoughtful work inspired by our class text, Wisp – A Story of Hope. The book has encouraged many meaningful discussions and has helped the children develop a deeper understanding of the experiences of refugee children around the world. Prep 4 has shown great empathy and maturity whilst learning about refugee camps and the challenges many families face. Their written work has been both imaginative and heartfelt and the children have enjoyed exploring the text through a range of different learning approaches from role on wall activities to diary entries.

As ever, teamwork has been in evidence during our Humanities lessons. The children have begun their work on Medieval Britain by learning about the Battle of Hastings and exploring the famous Bayeux Tapestry. They thoroughly enjoyed creating some amazing collages depicting scenes from the tapestry, showing fantastic creativity, collaboration and attention to detail. Alongside this, we have also been learning about castles ahead of our annual visit to Skipton Castle in Summer 2. The children are already building an impressive bank of knowledge and always enjoy bringing their learning to life during the trip.

We rounded off the half term with our residential visit to Newlands in the Lake District. Throughout the trip, teamwork, resilience and respect truly underpinned every activity. Whether taking part in orienteering, archery, climbing or the ever popular ghyll scrambling, the children showed courage, encouragement and determination throughout.

It has been a wonderful half term, and both the children and the Prep 4 team are very much looking forward to an equally enjoyable and successful Summer 2.
