Life in the Science department is always very busy and this year has been no different. Upper Juniors are now accomplished practical workers and it is wonderful to see how they can approach this work with real confidence and independence.  

In Prep 2, the children are getting ready to begin a new topic on plants. They will soon be planting seeds in their own planters and learning about what plants need to grow strong and healthy. As part of this, they will make predictions, observe changes over time, and take responsibility for caring for their plants. We are looking forward to seeing their planters flourish in the coming weeks. 

Prep 3 recently enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Catalyst Science Centre in Widnes. The day was filled with hands-on activities, giving pupils the chance to explore scientific ideas in an engaging and interactive way. A particular highlight was the planetarium experience, where the children learned more about space and the wonders of the universe. The pupils showed great enthusiasm throughout and represented the school brilliantly. 

Prep 4 have been learning about electricity. They have been designing and creating their own electrical games, applying their knowledge of circuits in a fun and practical way. Alongside this, they have also been learning how to stay safe when using electricity, understanding potential hazards and how to use electrical equipment responsibly. 

Prep 5 made an impressive start to their plants topic during a visit to RHS Bridgewater where they were able to identify specialist adaptations of different plants and put their practical skills into action by taking cuttings which are now growing well back at school.  

Prep 6 now well prepared for their transition to senior school science. They have particularly enjoyed a crime scene lesson where they have had to use their scientific knowledge to discover some of the characteristics of how light travels.
