During our exciting Animals Theme Week, Prep 5 pupils immersed themselves in the fascinating world of reptiles. Throughout the week, the children demonstrated outstanding creativity and teamwork as they explored, researched, designed, and presented their learning in a variety of engaging ways.

One of the highlights of the week was the creation of impressive 3D turtle models. Working collaboratively, the children planned their designs, selected suitable materials, and carefully constructed their models. Their creativity shone through as they used different textures, colours, and techniques to bring their turtles to life.  You might even have spotted them at the whole school Art Exhibition! 

As part of their English learning, the children researched reptiles that live near the ocean and used their findings to write informative fact files. They explored a range of species, learning about habitats, diets, adaptations, and behaviours. The pupils worked hard to organise their information clearly and accurately, producing well-presented pieces of writing that demonstrated both their knowledge and their enthusiasm for the topic.  We even had some pupils imagining David Attenborough using their information in one of his documentaries!

In mathematics and computing, Prep 5 combined their number skills with data handling to investigate the costs of keeping reptiles as pets. The children gathered information, entered data into spreadsheets, and used digital tools to create bar charts comparing the prices of different reptiles. This activity encouraged critical thinking and helped the children see how mathematics can be applied to real-life situations.

We are incredibly proud of all the Prep 5 children for their enthusiasm, dedication and hard work not just this week but throughout the year.  Whether collaborating on model-making, sharing research findings, or helping one another interpret data, the pupils demonstrated respect, cooperation, and a willingness to learn from each other. Their imaginative ideas, problem-solving skills, and positive attitudes excelled throughout the week and will support them as they continue their learning journey in the Upper Juniors.
