Lady Barn House School has been featured in a new SuperKind case study, sharing how our first whole-school Challenge Day became a celebration of kindness, teamwork and opportunity.

Held on Friday 22 May 2026, Challenge Day brought pupils, families and staff together in support of our Beyond Learning Bursary Fund, which aims to widen access to a Lady Barn education through transformational, means-tested bursaries.

Younger pupils took part in a woodland treasure hunt, while children across the rest of the School completed a range of challenges before coming together for a much-anticipated Colour Run.

Pupil voice was central to the event. Members of our Charity School Council helped shape the campaign, with pupils choosing the Colour Run as the main activity. Each class had its own SuperKind fundraising page, giving children a shared goal and making it easy for families and friends to support them.

To keep the campaign inclusive, the class competition was based on the number of sponsors secured rather than the amount of money raised. This meant that every donation counted equally and encouraged as many people as possible to take part.

The response exceeded our expectations. Challenge Day generated 592 individual donations and raised £14,245, including Gift Aid, for the Beyond Learning Bursary Fund. This contributed to the £47,000+ raised for the Fund during the 2025–2026 academic year.

However, the impact went far beyond the fundraising total. The campaign helped pupils understand the purpose of the Bursary Fund, sparked conversations at home and demonstrated how collective action can help create opportunities for others. It also gave pupils the chance to build confidence, show leadership and put Lady Barn’s values of Community, Creativity, Resilience, Respect and Teamwork into action.

As we shared with SuperKind, one of our most important lessons was to “start with the story, not the fundraising target”. When children understand the difference they can make, fundraising becomes a meaningful learning experience as well as a way of generating support.

Our first Challenge Day has established a strong foundation for future pupil-led fundraising and for continuing to build a culture of philanthropy across the Lady Barn community.
