The Art Department has been in full swing this term, with our Prep 1–6 pupils exploring a wonderful variety of projects, experimenting with different media and developing their artistic skills. From drawing and painting to mixed media and three-dimensional work, there has been plenty of creativity happening in the art room.

Prep 4 in particular have been busy working on a special art homework project at home. We are looking forward to seeing their finished pieces come together to create a fantastic year group display once all the work has been handed in. We can’t wait to see the results!

Our Art Club has proved incredibly popular, with sessions filled to the brim with enthusiastic young artists. As a drop in club, it offers pupils the opportunity to get creative, experiment with materials and enjoy making something just for fun. This term, we have been making paper squishies, with plenty of colourful and imaginative creations taking shape. We’ll be introducing a brand new project next half term, so watch this space.

We are also delighted to celebrate some fantastic successes in the ISA Art competition regional round, recognising achievements from last year. Our former Prep 6A pupils achieved second place with their collaborative class piece inspired by the expressive and powerful work of the influential Black artist Jean Michel Basquiat. Anita in Prep 4 also secured second place for her beautiful watercolour painting of a cat inspired by the distinctive style of Laurel Burch. Adding to our celebrations, the whole of EYFS achieved second place with their enormous, glittering mixed media fish, a wonderfully colourful collaborative creation.

These achievements are a brilliant reminder of the imagination, dedication and artistic talent across our school. Miss Fitzsimons is incredibly proud of the work our pupils produce and we all love seeing their confidence grow as they explore new ideas, take creative risks and discover what they can achieve through art.

With plenty more exciting projects on the horizon, we look forward to another term full of colour, creativity and artistic adventures.
