1) Can you share a favourite school memory or a funny moment that stands out to you?

One of my favourite school memories was having my photograph taken with a very handsome Irish footballer. I went to a prep school in Didsbury where Manchester United’s then Manager, Sir Matt Busby, had a granddaughter who also attended. One day, half of the United team came to do some training with the boys. Can you imagine how delighted my friends and I were when we were offered the opportunity to have our photo taken with George Best! I remember just being speechless when we walked into the Head’s office, and yes, I still have that photo.

2) What's your go-to way to relax and unwind after a busy day at Lady Barn?

Depending on the time of day, it would be either a cup of tea or a glass of wine and watching an old episode of Poirot/Morse or a black and white movie from the 1940s. I also love going out for meals, and Ms. Higson and I often exchange reviews on various restaurants and pubs we have tried.

3) If you could have any superpower for a day, what would it be, and how would you use it at Lady Barn?

If I could have a superpower for a day, I would use it so that no one forgot their PE/swimming kit, iPad, musical instrument, etc. It would mean no phone calls home for the Office. However, joking aside, we do love it when the pupils come in to see us… but just for one day...

4) Can you tell us about a special talent or hobby you have outside of your role at Lady Barn that brings you joy?

My favourite hobby is flower arranging. There is nothing so relaxing as working with nature. Last year, my nephew’s fiancée asked me to make the table arrangements for their May wedding. Obviously, I was excited at the prospect, but the week of the wedding, I was slightly nervous as it was a big responsibility. It took me two days to complete them, using a total of 15 different flowers and foliage for each one. Perhaps the proudest moment was when the professional florist who had prepared all the outside floral displays complimented me on my handiwork. It was a magical day.
