Yorkshire Cricket Tour
Back
This year's cricket tour was an action-packed two days of cricketing experiences, fun and camaraderie. We started at the Lancashire County Cricket Club indoor nets, honing our bowling, batting and fielding techniques prior to our first fixture in the afternoon. The pupils also had a look at the stadium and visited their club shop.
We then played Westville House Prep School at Ilkley Cricket Club, where 26 children in total were involved in a hard ball pairs cricket fixture. It was an idyllic setting and a very enjoyable game. Every pupil experienced batting, and bowled at least one over. We managed to comfortably win the game, with a fantastic spread of wicket takers. We then travelled to Queen Ethelburga's School who kindly provided our accommodation for the evening. Plenty to eat was certainly on the agenda, and then a swimming session and a team meeting to conclude the evening.
After breakfast, we played an U'12 Queen Ethelburga's team who gave us a fantastic challenge. The pupils had their eyes open to some very powerful striking of the ball and were set a very high total to chase. Lady Barn responded with some very courageous batting to take the game to the final over, needing 7 runs to win. However, their final bowler was extremely quick and took two wickets in the final over which creates a minus ten deficit in the innings. Despite falling short by 11 runs, the pupils had made the reply thoroughly exciting and the team responded magnificently to the challenge.
Overall, the boys had a fabulous experience, one full of happy memories. Thank you to Mr Slade and Mr Bowler for giving up their time to support and encourage the children.
