Insulated Cup Enterprise Challenge

This week, the much-anticipated final of the Prep 5 Enterprise Challenge took place. All of Prep 5 have been working in teams over the past few weeks to design, price and market an insulated cup, as part of their Science studies, and three teams were selected to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges; Pop Drink (Asiyah, Prisha and Shreena), Lukzy (Casper, Rowen, Aryan and Viaan) and Cuppa Caffeine (Ava, Sia, Zayna and Zoya).

In true Dragons’ Den style, each team confidently presented their design, supported by information they had compiled about manufacturing costs, product materials, insulation properties and environmental impact.

Ms Higson, Mrs Beer and Mrs Lachevre had a difficult decision to reach, as all three teams presented fantastic ideas and demonstrated a real understanding of their market audience and profit margins - the most important part for any investor!

The judges were highly impressed with all of the finalists’ proposals, not just their well-rehearsed presentations, but also their ability to answer on-the-spot questions, when challenged on elements of their budgeting and design!

Competition was fierce, as just two points separated first and third place; Cuppa Caffeine were announced as the worthy winners. The panel commented that the team had minimised production costs and environmental impact by offering a small range of colours, whilst giving customers the opportunity to customise their cup through a selection of hot or cold lids, and personalised handles. They also loved the slogan ‘Stay hot, keep it cool’ and the reasonable pricing!

Pop Drink were complimented on their clear and concise presentation, design and profit margin; Luksy were applauded for their understanding of the full sustainability journey of their product and the add-on features on their cup. 

All three teams demonstrated bucketloads of LBHS Creativity and LBHS Teamwork. Well done all; I am confident that you can take on any of those Dragons in the real-life Den!
