Prep 4 and 5 Hockey v Manchester High School
Back
On Monday evening, Manchester High come over to Lady Barn to play hockey against the Prep 4 and 5 girls'. There was huge excitement (and a few nerves) but after a very short warm up the matches got underway.
The Prep 4’s started their match with great positivity and made some excellent runs forward as well as showing bravery and tenacity in their tackling. Scoring an early goal and then made two further accurate attempts which unfortunately were disallowed due to being outside the shooting circle. However, the Prep 4 girls' were undeterred and continued to tackle and tried to find space to pass the ball into and created more chances before the half time whistle. In the second half they continued with the same positive work rate and although Manchester High managed to claw back a goal of their own I was really impressed with this team’s performance.
Prep 5 started their match with the Manchester High teacher, and they felt at half time they had done well in scoring a goal and in their defensive efforts but in the second half they needed to try and run more with the ball and make some stronger connections when passing. The Prep 5 girls' showed great teamwork on the pitch and when they had possession of the ball showed they could be dangerous making some excellent forward breaks for goal, even though these did not result in scoring. The Lady Barn girls' had to spend a lot of time defending and made some crucial tackles, as Manchester High continued to try and find ways to break through the defensive line, showing perseverance and a fantastic attitude of not giving up!
It was an excellent night of hockey and well done to all the girls who played.
