Reception learn about Minibeasts!
BackThis week in Reception, we’ve been diving into the wonderful world of Minibeasts, inspired by Alex Scheffler’s brilliant book ‘Flip Flap Minibeasts’. The children had great fun listening to the descriptions and guessing which minibeast was being described, before creating their own imaginative hybrids using images of different insect parts.
We had some fantastic creations such as the “Snee” (snail + bee), “Butterpede” (butterfly + millipede), and “Ladypillar” (ladybird + caterpillar). The children labelled their new creatures and used the iPad and the CLIPS app to record their descriptions, creating a fantastic digital book for our class – our very own version of Flip Flap Minibeasts!
The children also enjoyed working with air-dry clay to sculpt a minibeast of their choice, carefully shaping and painting their models with impressive attention to detail. The excitement is buzzing – we are most definitely Mad About Minibeasts!
