On a beautiful sunny day, Prep 5 enjoyed a hands-on science experience at RHS Bridgewater, bringing their Investigating Plants topic to life in a stunning outdoor setting.

The session began with a fun and informative activity where one pupil dressed as a plant while the group identified its parts and their functions, learning how pollination leads to the production of new plants. Pupils explored how plants can reproduce in different ways – from seeds and spores, to cuttings – using magnifying glasses and handheld microscopes to examine examples up close.

Prep 5 were fascinated by a fossilised fern and learnt how ferns reproduce through spores. They also discovered how gardeners clone plants  – each pupil took a cutting from a mint plant to grow back at school.

The pupils also explored how Mediterranean plants survive in hot climates during a visit to the Paradise Garden Glasshouse.

Afterwards, pupils toured the Kitchen Garden, walked through the peaceful Chinese Garden, and enjoyed some time playing in the woodland. A fantastic day of science, sunshine and discovery!
