Reception have been learning all about space this half term, and it has been an exciting and inspiring topic for everyone. The children have explored the planets in our solar system and have been discovering lots of interesting space facts. They have shown great curiosity, asking thoughtful questions and sharing what they have learned with their friends.

As part of our learning, we decided it would be fun to use our imaginations to create our own aliens. We talked about whether aliens might be real or just something we imagine, which led to lots of creative ideas and discussions. The Reception children also enjoyed reading a variety of stories where aliens were the main characters. While reading, we looked closely at the illustrations, noticing how differently each alien had been drawn and designed.

We spent time discussing the different features that aliens might have. The children suggested ideas such as spikes, tails, horns, and even extra eyes. We also thought about how many arms, legs, hands, or toes an alien could have, as well as their size, shape, and colour. Some children imagined tiny, friendly aliens, while others designed large, unusual creatures with lots of unique features.

Using all of these ideas, combined with their fantastic creativity, the children designed and created their very own aliens. They worked hard to include interesting details and were excited to talk about their creations. It was wonderful to see how each alien was completely different, showing the individuality and imagination of every child.

We are so proud of the effort and enthusiasm the children have shown throughout this topic. Have a look at some of our fantastic alien creations! What words would you use to describe them? Are they friendly, scary, colourful, or mysterious? What kind of planet do you think they might live on?

You could even continue the fun at home by designing and drawing your own alien. Think about what special features your alien might have and where it would live in space. We would love to see your amazing ideas!
