Prep 2 have continued to approach their learning this term with curiosity, thoughtfulness, and a growing awareness of the world around them.

In English, our recent writing has been centred around the book My Name is Not Refugee. This powerful and sensitive text has encouraged the children to reflect on their own lives - what feels familiar, what feels safe, and what matters most - while also beginning to understand that not everyone’s experiences are the same. The children have engaged in thoughtful discussions about belonging, change and resilience, showing increasing empathy as they consider how it might feel to leave behind people, places, and routines. This work has supported not only their writing, but also their ability to listen carefully, reflect deeply, and express their ideas with maturity.

In Religious Education, we have continued to look outward through our topic Beginnings and Endings. By exploring festivals, ceremonies, and celebrations across a range of world religions, the children are developing a deeper understanding of how beliefs shape the way people live their lives. RE has provided valuable opportunities to explore the meaning behind traditions, helping children to see that many important moments in life are marked with reflection, community, and shared values. In doing so, they are beginning to understand not only what people believe, but why, and how this helps to shape the world we live in today.

In Maths, Prep 2 have been building confidence through work on times tables, pictograms, tallies, and bar charts, developing both accuracy and interpretation skills. They have also particularly enjoyed the practical elements of our measures topic, exploring mass, capacity, and temperature. As the weather has begun to improve, the children have taken their learning beyond the classroom, applying their understanding in hands-on investigations such as measuring and comparing different volumes of water. These experiences have helped to deepen their understanding, showing how maths can be both purposeful and closely connected to real-life contexts.

Across all areas of learning, Prep 2 continue to demonstrate enthusiasm, care, and a growing ability to reflect on both their own experiences and those of others. It has been a thoughtful and rewarding term so far, and we look forward to all that is still to come in the summer.
